It is said that the Gods are artists who love to create and humans were created in their images. Throughout time there have been various different versions of humans. Some as complex as being immortal and some profound like an inventor. Either way when they create something it is with full intent. As God’s when they create humans they are also creating descendants.
Every descendant or “child” Gods create receive a gift.
The teachings used at Light Bearer’s Oracle derive from a polytheistic system. Meaning our practice was created by a collaboration of Gods. However, the High Priestesses here are descendants of Hecate and we honor her.
Gods evolve throughout time. They are known to adjust to the culture and time of which they are needed. You may find a God has gone by various other names around the world. This is because humans typically feel more secure in familiar environments. When a God cares for you they want you to feel safe and be open so that they can guide you through life.
You will find the same is true of Hecate. Often referred to as the mother of witchcraft, triple headed goddess, maiden mother crone, Guardian of the crossroads. The truth is she could be all of these and none of these in the same night.
When we sing praises to Hecate we do not think about the nicknames she has been given throughout time.
We think of the legacy she has given us and the blessings she continues to provide today.
Hecate is a mentor. She shows you where you messed up and how to fix it. She does not solve your problems.
She empowers you to clean it up and ensure it never happens again. She is your strength when you feel like you have poured out every ounce of yourself.
She is your light when you have absolutely no idea where you are or where you are going. She grounds you and guides you back to your true self. She gives you flexibility to be free but watches over you so you don’t stray the path. She keeps you in alignment with your goals and purpose.
She loves with understanding. While firm she gets to know you to your core so that every lesson she gives hits harder than the one before. She listens and when she responds she gives you everything you wanted and things you could never even dream of.
She is your mother, sister, aunt, grandmother.
If you would also like to join us in honoring Hecate you could do any of the following:
- Light a candle in her honor
- Brew her a cup of tea
- Give her flowers (lavender, chamomile, roses)
When you participate in these activities make sure you have set aside the proper time and space. Ensure you have a moment in a clean space to say a few words to her.
This could be as easy or detailed as you feel is necessary. The key is to focus your intention on connecting to Hecate.
A great example would be to light a candle and say “Thank you Hecate for protecting and providing for us.”
More intricate set ups include a table with several of the above mentioned items and a sort of dialogue with Hecate. You could introduce yourself, tell her why you picked the items you brought for her, why you are trying to connect with her and to shower her with appreciation.
