When we think of tarot cards we think of our journey. In life when we begin something new we are often hopeful, innocent and maybe even energetic; similar to the “fool’s card”, the first card in the deck. There are over 70 cards in the deck that represent different areas in our life, for example, money, love, emotions and decisions. These cards can be used to answer questions and provide guidance for your journey.
If you were to divide the tarot cards into categories you would see cups, pentacles, wands, swords and courts. Today we will be focusing on the cups, specifically the 6 of cups card.
Cup cards represent our emotions. Everything in our life has a process, something always leads to something else. In a new emotional adventure, perhaps a new relationship, it requires a union. Someone or something will combine together, thus setting into motion a gathering of some sort. Eventually routine will set in and stability will emerge. However, nothing remains at rest and will eventually evolve into something else. These events are our journey through the cup cards, the emotional aspects in our life.
As you explore through life, we all eventually experience the “6 of cups”. The card of “nostalgia”. Nostalgia, simply put, is an affection for the past. When reading tarot it is important to note, nothing is good or bad, it just “is.” So this card will mean different things to practically everyone who sees it. This is because we are all at different points in our life and no 2 people have the same story.
The 6 of cups or card of nostalgia could represent:
- Giving or receiving joy and peace, being with people you care about in a pleasant environment
- Message from someone from your past (living or deceased)
- Receiving gifts, attention, notoriety
- Healing from something, finding comfort
- Innocence and purity, unconditional love
Someone who is being inspired by something/ someone from the past to do something in the present that could be monumental for their life.
How are these nostalgic?
- When you think of inspiration, you often think of something that has already happened. This memory holds such a huge weight in your mind it has ignited something new inside of you.
- When a loved one has moved on to the spiritual realm we often find ourselves looking for signs for them all around. 6 of cups is the sign. It is your “ I am here” message to you from them.
- Building relationships takes time. But in the end you are rewarded with trust and love. You cherish these moments because you remember the work you had to put in to reach this point.
- In order to be appreciated and rewarded a good amount of effort has to be put in. After a while, people begin to notice and want to sing your praises. Here the card would be representing how other people are feeling about the past of the seeker.
- To heal is to have been hurt. We are moving out of the old and into the new. However, we still have to acknowledge what happened to see what to not do again.
- Cards can also have reverse meanings. So instead of meaning “an affection for the past” it could mean “optimistic for the future”. A feeling of new and unchartered territory
It is easier to decide where you want to go if you know where you are and where you came from.
